Founded in 1927 by Carl Spitz, Sr., a trailblazer in the dog training industry, the Hollywood Dog Training School has been a beacon of excellence for nearly a century.
Originally established for police, war, and studio dog training, the school evolved under the leadership of Rick Karl, who took over in 1978. Our legacy includes training numerous Hollywood canine stars and beloved family pets, with a commitment to excellence and care for every breed. Following Rick Karl’s retirement, Diana Benitez has assumed leadership, bringing a new era of passion and dedication to our mission. Under Diana’s guidance, along with our experienced team, we continue to uphold our legacy of love and respect for all creatures at Hollywood Dog Training School.
Current owner Diana Benitez has over 15 years of experience as a dog trainer. She has devoted herself to coaching clients on evaluating dogs and training them to behave within the rules and structure of normal family life. Her love for dogs began as a teenager when she found her first job at Hollywood Dog Training School, instantly feeling connected. After completing a three-year apprenticeship, she became a Master Dog Trainer, learning basic obedience training, business operations, and canine problem-solving for practical home applications.
After five years of dedication, Diana was promoted to head dog trainer, taking full responsibility for all dogs and passing her knowledge to colleagues. She had a successful 25-year career at Hollywood Dog Training School. When Rick Karl decided to retire and sell the school, Diana was the logical choice to take over. She relocated the school from Burbank to Sunland, California, where she continues to treat the animals, clients, and business like family.
Our school has earned a reputation for excellence in customer service.
